To support continued growth and long-term projects within the nuclear industry, our partner company is now looking for a Lead Mechanical Designer.

In this role, you will work closely with a key customer in the nuclear power sector, contributing to the design and delivery of customised lifting devices, handling equipment, and other specialised mechanical solutions used in highly regulated environments.

The position can be based in Helsinki, Mikkeli, or Pori, Finland, with flexible hybrid working opportunities available. 

About the Role

As a Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will take a leading role in the development, design, and technical execution of customized mechanical equipment and lifting solutions. You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from concept development and engineering to manufacturing support and final delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading mechanical design activities and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within budget
  • Developing concepts and technical solutions for customized lifting and handling equipment
  • Performing hands-on mechanical design using SolidWorks and PDM systems
  • Guiding engineering work with a focus on safety, manufacturability, functionality, and compliance with applicable standards
  • Conducting structural calculations and mechanical dimensioning
  • Supporting sales teams with technical expertise and workload estimates
  • Defining engineering requirements and technical specifications
  • Coordinating technical aspects of subcontracted manufacturing and supplier deliveries
  • Mentoring and supporting other designers and engineers when required

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who has:

  • Several years of experience in mechanical equipment design or machine design
  • Experience with lifting equipment, lifting accessories, material handling systems, or other heavy mechanical structures
  • Strong SolidWorks skills
  • Experience with structural calculations and static strength assessments
  • Experience in concept development and engineering design processes
  • Previous experience leading design work, engineering projects, or engineering teams
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, including EN 1990, EN 13155, and EN 1090
  • Fluency in Finnish and in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Ansys or other FEM analysis tools
  • Experience from the nuclear, energy, marine, or heavy industrial sectors
  • Experience designing customized customer-specific equipment and engineered solutions
  • Understanding of quality and safety requirements in highly regulated industries
