Hi Senad, can you introduce yourself?
My name is Senad and I studied at Integrify in 2017. Through Integrify, I got a job as a Web Developer at Wunder, where I worked for the past two years. Recently, I decided to take the next step in my career and I started working at Vaisala as a Business Solution Developer.
Tell us more about your background
I arrived in Finland from Serbia 9 years ago. I had a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering but I decided to change my career to programming. I took online courses and studied by myself for quite some time before joining Integrify. It was a natural process for me and I found myself becoming really passionate about programming. It never gets boring and I'm happy when I can keep on solving problems. For me, programming is like an art form, there’s always something to improve on.
How was your time at Integrify?
Lots of fun, actually. I was part of the first batch in 2017, when Integrify was still organizing classes at Maria 0-1. I didn’t really know what to expect, on the first day I just brought my laptop to the old hospital and it all turned out very well. I loved coming to Integrify. The program taught us modern technologies and was not limited to boring exercises but instead was very practical and hands-on. We had peer-to-peer learning, where we would review each other’s code everyday. Our group had about 10 people so we would have lunch together every day and attend many interesting tech events together, which is something I don’t get to do anymore.
What is your favourite memory about Integrify?
Everyone was working for the good of the company. I felt like I was a part of developing Integrify, I wasn’t just taking part in a program there. For example everybody in the program took part of moving the office to a new location, I myself was the driver. It was such a fun day.
Tell us a little bit about your career after Integrify
After Integrify, I landed a job at Wunder where I became their Drupal and React Developer. Throughout the years I worked on several frontend and backend projects and learned a lot. After two years, I needed a change of pace and I decided to apply to an in-house position at a product company. I applied to Vaisala and Daniel (CEO and Co-founder of Integrify) helped me once again by recommending me to the company, which I will always be very grateful for.
How are you liking your new role at Vaisala?
I am the only senior developer at Vaisala, so I am the boss of myself. There are 40 people in the IT department, but I am the only one managing the website so I get to decide my own work. I still feel like I have a lot to learn, but I’m more confident when I talk to clients or when I’m solving a problem. The role of Business Solution Developer is completely new at Vaisala so I have a chance to really make a difference.
What’s the next big goal for you?
My career goal is to have my own IT company. I don’t know what it’ll be yet, but I would like to do something good for society.
If you could describe Integrify in 3 words, what would they be?
- Friendship, because I made life-long friends there.
- Expertise, because I was learning to become an expert with an expert teaching me.
- Life-changing, before Integrify I was unemployed, in the process of changing my career. Integrify gave me a path to follow.
